There is no better between the two. They are both different focal lengths. You will need many lenses if you are doing photography or filmmaking. I love the 85mm for tight cloeups. But if you are looking for a great quality inexpensive lens. The 50mm F/1.8 is great for under $100 and very versatile. Remember there is a crop factor when mounting on DSLR’s. For the Canon it is X1.6 so a 50mm is more like an 80mm lens. You can research crop factor to help you decide on a lens.
It was a canon to nikon lens adapter I bought on ebay.. There are some cheap ones on there.. It was a novoflex. The cheap ones suck. So keep an eye out for a novoflex for around 75-120. They retail for about300. But that is way too much to pay..

at what points was the 85 used? close ups with the blurry back ground?
